01. Do I really need to take Theory or Musicianship lessons?

While it is not absolutely essential to take separate lessons, it will help you immensely in your music playing. It is through learning the language of music that you will understand what it is you are playing.

02. But isn’t Theory and/ or Musicianship taught during piano lessons anyway?

While there will be concepts of Theory/ Musicianship taught during your lessons, there is not enough time during lessons to teach more than basic theory. It really is best to take separate lessons to gain detailed and thorough music knowledge.

03. I don’t know which lessons to take: Theory or Musicianship?

Both classes are valuable classes and it really depends on the individual on which is the best to choose. The options are best discussed with your Pixie Piano teacher.

04. I have studied Theory but now want to study Musicianship…are they interchangeable?

Absolutely! You may switch from one to the other. Again, discussing this with your teacher is the best course of action.

05. What if I don’t want to do exams?

You don’t have to! You may study for your own general interest and in order to become a more rounded musician.

06. What is Music Craft?

Apart from taking AMEB theory and musicianship exams, Music Craft exams are another option. Please discuss with your Pixie Piano teacher if you are interested.

07. How can you help me in preparing for AMEB exams?

As well as tuition, we can work through past exam papers (to test our knowledge). For Musicianship students we will study aural training in addition to your studies. By the time your exam day approaches you will exactly what will be expected of you and will have gained the necessary knowledge to successfully complete the exam.
